Some people (especially those of the male variety) don’t quite understand exactly what my job entails. Whenever someone asks me, I quite simple say “I’m a bit like Gok Wan… but better!” I then quickly have to justify myself and say, I’m only joking because I think he’s wonderful.
An Image Consultant is someone who has a passion for fashion, and an appreciation for the effects that clothes can have on us. It is a burning desire inside to show people what I know, using my skills and knowledge to help them find their perfect style, and in turn gain confidence and self esteem. Standing behind them in front of a mirror, seeing their smile and whole demeanour change through clothing you have made them try on. That’s what I’m passionate about, making women look and feel fabulous!
It is so much more than just clothes and shopping, for some it’s a life changing experience. Living life with a poor body image can be a painful and wasteful practice (believe me I know). Investing in a specialist who knows what they are doing can do wonders, and transform how an individual feels about themselves.
The secret is getting to know my client, finding out why she is not currently visually projecting the person she wants the world to see. She may be a new mum, a grandma, a business woman, or have been through a major change in their life such as a divorce, vast weight loss/gain or even an illness. Whoever my client may be, she is an individual with a personality and her style needs to reflect this. I work with her body shape, after all you can’t change Mother Nature, but you certainly can disguise her. I also work with her lifestyle as there’s no point in putting her in 5inch Jimmy Choo’s if she’s got kids and a dog to run after!
I take all the pain and frustration out of not knowing what to wear by organising their wardrobe. It is important to have what you want and what you need for every occasion you may be faced with. I focus all my attention, commitment and expertise on my client. Taking the confusion out of dressing and the pain out of shopping. Some women hate shopping or quite simply don’t have the time to do it successfully. When they do go shopping they will tend to buy the same sorts of clothing, and will accumulate what is already in their wardrobe. I introduce new shops, styles, colours and items that they would have probably never even considered before.
First impressions count, especially in today’s current climate, you only have one chance to make a first impression so make sure it’s the right one. By helping my client to show the world who they really are, or who they want the world to think they are is called developing a personal style. This is what I do. Demi Couture is the start of your journey into style…
