Are stylish people innately fashionable or is the very point of style that you ignore the trends? I read this somewhere, fell in love with it and twittered it. I then commented that I honestly believe that it’s a bit of both, either that or they’ve had my help!
As an Image Consultant, I have to know what the fashion industry is doing and what the current seasons trends are. What colours are in the shops, the hottest must-haves as well as the latest shapes for trousers, skirts and jackets. There will be new shapes every season, and for some of my clients, these new elements of fashion will be appropriate, but for others who do not suit them, I find different ways of giving them a current look that they are happy with and feel comfortable in. After all, this is the most important thing.
If looking good meant just looking fashionable then dressing would be so easy, we would all just copy the magazines. This is not the case. Have you ever seen someone dressed head to toe in the latest look and think ‘oh dear me!’ It’s about taking elements of what’s out there, the latest collections, shops and looks, creating a style that is unique to my client and reflects who she wants the world to see. Sometimes I have to forget about fashion and determine what my client wants from her clothes. People will choose certain items of clothing for various different reasons, such as comfort, style, durability, versatility or impact.
My job is to use fashion and trends to incorporate, compliment, re-invent and update my client’s current look. They will assist me to create a style for my client that suits her body shape, personality, lifestyle and budget. After all I am quite simply a real woman helping real women to look and feel fantastic!
I am going to leave you with one of my favourite quotes by Coco Chanel “Fashion fades, only style remains”.
