There was a time when a single colour or a certain item of clothing ruled an entire season. Well not anymore! Spring summer 2012 has many sides to it and you don’t have to pledge your style fidelity to just one. After all, where’s the fun in that? Spring starts right here, so jump on in!
The new season styles are starting to trickle in and I am super excited at the prospect of updating my client’s wardrobes with summery pieces. If, like me, you’ve had enough of the doom and gloom of winter and can’t wait for the new season, then take a look at some of the key trends I have picked out below. This is the time to lift your spirits with the new clothes you buy. They should bring you happiness, confidence and above all, make you look and feel fabulous.
Sugar and spice and all things nice…
Candy colours of sherbet bon bons and sugared almonds are the shade inspiration for the 2012 collections. This powdery pastel palette seems to have emerged as a front-runner for the title of key spring summer 2012 trend. Mixing different pastels together was also a winning look on the catwalks. Opt for baby blue, spearmint green, lemon yellow and damask rose. If you buy one thing from this trend make it a pair of pastel coloured jeans, I’m predicting these are going to be a HUGE look for SS 2012.
It’ll be all white on the night…
If you’re slightly scared of colour then make it easy and opt for white (the new black for summer!). The trend is to complete the look by wearing it top to bottom. If the head-to-toe look is too bold for you then introduce white along with camel or black as an accent. Whites can be bright clean cut lines in simple shapes or light, feminine and romantic creations. The must have piece this summer will be the white lace dress, innocent and delicate, perfect for the feminine feel of this season.
Blooming lovely…
Florals always scream ‘summer’ but this season, full blooms are in abundance. Bright, brash and bold floral prints adorned almost every catwalk in every fashion capital. Go for printed fabrics or choose decorative petal appliqués. I predict the high-street will have some great statement florals for summer and if you invested in the coveted floral print shift dress from last year then get it out of the wardrobe and recycle it this year! Springs florals are a delightfully mixed bunch, blossoming on the prettiest dresses and most feminine separates. If wearing such a dramatic print makes you feel rather queasy then opt for accessories in feminine florals such as a clutch bag or a fabulous pair of shoes.
Roaring Twenties…
Get flapping with some 1920’s glamour this summer. One of the biggest films to be released this year will be the adaptation of the F Scott Fitzgerald classic, The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. Fashion is ready to pay homage and reflects the era with glam ’20s dresses and dropped hems, tasseled trims and fringing, Art Deco style prints and patterns. Not to mention a little beading and ostrich feathers! The red carpet has seen plenty of celebs already partaking in the trend, so how about a little black and gold flapper number in your wardrobe ladies?
Trade the razzle dazzle sparkle of winter for a more subtle radiant and luminous glow with iridescent metallic yarns, holograms and sequins. Think under-sea style shimmer and sheen. Glistening silk organza’s, shimmery, shiny fabrics, scalloped trims and mermaid sequins, teamed with lagoony hues are giving us that underwater love. Off set summer metallics with nude flesh tone accessories, heels or belts. The must have item for this look is the metallic jacket, a day-to-night staple. Worn with jeans or an evening dress its worth its weight in gold, silver or bronze!
Get sporty with fashion on a fitness streak…
It’s going to be a big sporting summer for Brits and with a spirit of athleticism in the air, fashion is following the same theme. In this Olympic year why not saunter up to the starting line in silky track pants and a loosely tailored top? The new luxe sportswear fuses performance fabrics with feminine lines. Stick to a modern approach with relaxed, loose and easy to wear tailoring. Try chic neutral shades and clean-cut sporty shapes in sumptuous materials to create the most elegant take on the new athletic mood. Show off good arms and shoulders with cutaways, racer backs and sheer mesh panels. I would Steer clear of sporty brights by night and stick to a clean monochrome palate adding an air of sophistication.
All in all Spring Summer 2012 is sensual, sophisticated and somewhat very feminine. If all this is somewhat scary rather than seductive, and you would like a little help and advice from a professional, either for yourself or a loved one, then please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be your Fairy Clothes Mother, after all looking good doesn’t just happen, it is my job to show people how!
