Being a regular with my clients at Bicester Village, they asked me to have a look around and write a blog on my top 5 picks to update a winter wardrobe. It wasnt hard!
1.) Alexander McQueen Winter Coat
Your choice of coat is arguably the most important decision you’ll make once the weather takes a turn for the worse. Not only is it your first line of defence against the elements, but it’s often the first thing that others notice too, meaning a new piece of outerwear should be at the very top of your Autumn Winter wish list.
Although a winter coat is considered a classic garment that never really falls out of fashion, traditionally each season a couple of silhouettes dominate the high fashion collections and stand out from the rest. However, my recommendation if you are purchasing a designer piece to go classic, simple, chic and sophisticated. This will ensure you can get it out of your wardrobe for the next 10 plus years. Alexander McQueen offers the most beautifully tailored classcial coats with a twist.
2.) Stuart Weitzman Over the Knee Boots
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I walked into the newly opened Kurt Geiger, it was more like a luxury department store shoe floor than the shop I know. Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Charlotte Olympia, to name but a few of the brands on offer. Stuart Weitzman offer a fantastic selection of long winter boots whether it be the 50/50, Highland or Lowland, stamp your style authority in the brands signature styles. With a leather or suede front and fabric back, they demonstrate the brand’s signature play on form and texture. Opt for knee-high length to guarantee a hit in the fashion circles. The style stakes are matched only by the comfort of a back elasticated panel, ensuring a smooth fit every time.
3.) YSL Yellow Clutch
What better way to update a winter wardrobe than an injection of some colour? The stores are generally full of darker muted tones so why not add a splash of frivolity to that faithful little black dress? Perfect for the party season, team with some fabulous heels, jewels and off you go!
4.) Temperley Knitwear
It goes without saying that knitwear is an essential part of anyone’s autumn winter wardrobe. And while previous seasons have seen more fitted, lighter weight knitwear take centre stage, this time around things are a little thicker and a whole lot larger.
Perfect for keeping you warm and cosy, the oversized chunky knit , whether in cardigan, roll neck or jumper form, ties in with the current trend and will give any of your go-to looks a contemporary twist.
A quick note on body shape, these chunky knits are best suited to taller ladies who want to balance their proportions by breaking up the vertical line lower down on the body. Likewise, they can help add natural bulk and size to skinny frames. If you are a shorter than average or carrying a few extra pounds, you need to be careful. An oversized chunky knit can quickly make you appear smaller or larger than you really are.
5.) Burberry Trench Coat
There is no doubt that this is one of the most iconic pieces to be found in anyone’s wardrobe. No other item of outerwear embodies British heritage and style as much as our treasured trench coat. Loved all over the world the trench coats origin is distinctly militaristic in nature, however thanks to the fabulous designers at Burberry has had a little twist. Leather inserts, gold studs and zips, the mac got seriously serious! I spotted an amazing one when I went into the store, it had some serious reductions however the biggest was a size 6, sadly I am not a size 6! If you are then get yourself to Bicester ASAP.
