We never leave the house with the intention of looking bad. Our goals after getting dressed in the morning are looking put together, stylish, polished and hopefully complimented on how we look. Whilst we all have those days (we are human after all!), our best fashion moments usually happen when we follow a few specific styling criteria.
I would like to share with you my top 5 tips on the five things that will always make your outfit ensemble stand out from the crowd.
- Perfect Fitting Separates
The simplest way to make a great first impression? Wear clothes that actually fit. A tailor or seamstress really is your best investment to guarantee your clothes fit you like a glove. This includes everything from blouses to blazers to trousers. Women can be the size same but not the same shape, clothes are designed to be altered, so a good seamstress is a must in your phone book!
- Killer Accessories
It’s no secret that the accessories really make your outfit. Regardless of how beautiful your clothes are. To ensure you look finished and individual always make sure you go for good quality add-ons. Whether it be a handbag, shoes, jewellery or even a pair of sunglasses. They can make a cheap outfit look expensive, or an expensive outfit look cheap.
- Simple Layering
Layering is essential for a well-styled look. I would personally keep it simple and don’t do too much. I only really layer when I need to (i.e., grabbing a cardigan over a little t-shirt when it’s cold or my faithful little leather jacket) and simply avoid it when you don’t need to so it doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard.
- Appropriate Hemlines
Hemlines definitely need to be considered, always think that wherever they end are where people’s eyes are being drawn to. Skirt and trouser hemlines vary based on body shape and height. My three main rules are if you have a short dress or skirt then always cover the chest area. The most flattering place for a dress or skirt to end is just below the knee, on the smallest part of the leg and ¾ trousers will make you look shorter and dumpier, unless of course you are Elle McPherson!
- Luxe Looking and Feeling Handbags
To echo the importance of accessories mentioned in tip number 2, the one item that will automatically make your outfit look and feel high-end is a gorgeous real leather handbag. This doesn’t necessarily mean dropping five digits on a designer one (unless you want to!). You’ll look and feel like a million dollars!
